Search me, O God, and know my heart: test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
(Psalm 139:23-24, NLT)
Would you agree that we are often easily offended by the wrong things?
Being offended can be driven by emotions, misunderstandings, or a hateful spirit. Think about it. If we asked God to search us, test us , and know our hearts, what would He find? Can we even find time to be still before God as He shares what offends Him?
David, the Psalmist, made it known that his desire was to be a man after God’s heart. The adventurous life of David never stopped him from spending time with God. He wanted to hear from God every moment and never wanted to offend Him.
One of the tasks of the Holy Spirit is to align our heart with God’s heart. As the Spirit does this, we can receive what offends God with a willing heart that honors Him.
What about Jesus? Can you even imagine how “offended” He COULD have been? Offended as people scoffed at Him, hurled insults at Him, beat Him, and crucified Him. But instead He focused on paving the path of everlasting life for us. Jesus’ sinless life never offended His Father, nor was Jesus offended by sinners like us.
Next time you are offended, do a heart check to see what God is revealing to you. Let Him search your heart, test your soul, and calm your anxious thoughts.
Pray these verses and pour your heart out to God. He is waiting to reshape it if you will let Him.
The path of everlasting life is more beautiful than any of the beautiful pathways we walk on this earth… Let Him lead you, sweet friend. Let Him lead.
Radiant with Joy,
